On her 60th birthday, photographer Estelle Slegers Helsen launched an inspiring daily project. She committed to making a single black-and-white photograph every day using a Nikon F75 analogue camera, a gift from a friend photographer some years ago.
With the camera set to aperture priority at f/11 —an intentional choice that inspired the title of her series— Estelle focusses on both the physical level (such as vantage point, framing and plane of focus) and the depictive level (such as flatness, frame, focus) of an image, to reconnect with the fundamental art of photography. The fixed f/11 aperture ensures a balanced depth of field, elevating the sharpness and detail of each image.
Through this endeavour, Estelle aims to cultivate and express her photographic voice, inviting viewers to appreciate the objects she highlights during her daily explorations, whether close to home or in more distant locations.
Film #1 - Photos from 13th August to 17th September 2025
Note: The camera has a preload system that automatically advances the film to the last frame when it is first loaded, and rewinds it back into the canister when the roll is finished. So frame #36 is the first photo and frame #01 the last.
